What triggers heartburn?

Many types of foods can cause heartburn symptoms. But there are certain foods and beverages that are more common culprits and certain conditions that can make matters worse. Common heartburn triggers
  • Coffee and other caffeinated beverages
  • Carbonated drinks
  • Acidic foods like citrus fruits and tomato based products
  • Chocolate
  • Mints
  • Fried or fatty foods
  • Onions, garlic and other spicy foods
  • Certain medications, including aspirin or ibuprofen
  • Alcohol
  • Cigarette smoking
  • Eating too much or too quickly
  • Lying down after eating
